How to Make Authentic Vietnamese Iced Coffee at Home (Easy Recipe)
Bring Vietnam Into Your Kitchen
Vietnamese iced coffee, or Cà Phê Sữa Đá, is one of the most beloved coffee drinks in the world. Rich, bold, slightly sweet, and incredibly refreshing, it’s surprisingly easy to make at home.
All you need is a traditional Vietnamese coffee filter (called a phin), freshly ground Vietnamese coffee, sweetened condensed milk, and ice.
Once you’ve tried it, you’ll understand why millions of Vietnamese people start their mornings with this iconic drink.
Ingredients
- 20 g Vietnamese ground coffee
- 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
- 60–80 ml hot water (195–205°F / 90–96°C)
- Ice cubes
Equipment
- Vietnamese phin filter

- Coffee cup or glass
- Spoon
Step 1 – Add Condensed Milk
Pour 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk into the bottom of your glass.

This creates the creamy sweetness that perfectly balances the bold coffee.
Step 2 – Add Coffee to the Phin
Place 20 grams of Vietnamese ground coffee into the phin.
Shake it gently so the coffee bed is even.
Place the filter press on top without pressing too hard.
Step 3 – Bloom the Coffee
Pour a small amount of hot water (about 20 ml) over the coffee.
Let it bloom for 30 seconds.
This allows the coffee to release its rich aroma before brewing.
